What are your Most Valuable Activities?

Hi, I’m Dave Crenshaw, and I am here actually at Issimo Productions.  I mentioned them in my last blog post and they are the ones that are working on the video production of my new Video Boot Camp.  In fact, the editing is going on right now in the other room.  Brandon is doing a great job of editing that up for me.  So, I am going to be out here so I don’t disturb what he is doing, but I wanted to film from here to illustrate a principle that I talk about regularly, which is Most Valuable ActivitiesTM, your MVAs.

You may not know this, but I actually know how to do video editing.  I started doing that way back when I was in high school.  I did some work for a cousin of mine who has a video production company and it’s something that… just one of those random skills that I have picked up over the years.

The time came for me to look at this bid to put together the Video Boot Camp, and I thought, “Well, you know maybe I should do the video editing myself.” I stopped myself and remembered the principle that I teach to my clients every single day and the Boot Camp talks about in great depth, “What are your most valuable activities?” and “the amount of money you make is always dependent on your ability to focus on your most valuable activities.”

So, when I had gotten the bid from Jacob at Issimo, he gave me two bids: one was for them to do the editing and one was for me to do the editing; and for them to do the editing, it is not cheap because they are professionals in everything that they do. But I did decide to have them do the editing because my Most Valuable Activities are building my business and doing what I am doing right now, which is talking and training.

So, the question that I would like to leave you with for today’s training is “What is your Most Valuable Activity and how much time are you spending each week in that Most Valuable Activity?”

The average business owner/entrepreneur spends less than 30% of their time in their Most Valuable Activities. If you are finding yourself in that situation, then the upcoming Video Boot Camp is going to be awesome for you because it will help you focus your time on your Most Valuable Activities. But it all starts with identifying them and making sure that you don’t allow your time to get sucked away into all those other activities, even the ones that you know how to do, even the ones that may be costly to replace, but if they still don’t yield as much money to your personal bottom line and to the company’s bottom line, then odds are you just plain shouldn’t be doing them.
