“My micromanaging boss is driving me CRAZY!!”
There are few things more demoralizing than a leader who micromanages. When you’re on the receiving end of it, you might contemplate quitting, even if you love your job.
The great news is you CAN do something about it.
No, I don’t mean blowing up and getting yourself fired—or worse.
It’s all about control—on both ends—and understanding that you can only control what YOU do in response.
Try these simple steps to put an end to the micromanaging nightmare:
- Request a one-on-one meeting with your boss and politely ask them, “What’s the result that you’re trying to get that you’re not getting right now?” This is usually the motive behind micromanaging!
- Determine the best method of achieving that result. Tell the micromanager what method you’re thinking of using, and get them to check off on it.
- Over-deliver and under-promise. Meaning, do your best quality of work and deliver it earlier than expected or at least on time.
Doing these things will help relieve your boss’ desire to micromanage and still allow you to have some creative control, too.
