Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a pause button for work?
You’d click “pause” and hit the town. You could see a movie or have a fancy meal somewhere. When you came back, everything would be in order and you’d feel refreshed and ready to face the world. Of course, it’s easy to sit and dream about having fun when you have a full-time job, a mortgage, and kids that need college educations, orthodontia, and a bed to sleep in.
And yet, you MUST make having fun a priority…especially if you want to be productive.
If you find yourself wishing that you had more time away from your workplace, you may be influenced by the culture of WISH (Worth It Someday, Hopefully). In my book, The Power of Having Fun, the culture of WISH is the ever-present carrot dangling in front of us telling us to keep chugging along. After all, our devotion to our craft will ultimately pay off, won’t it? So, we meander through a desert on a horse with no name and a canteen with no water, pleading for refreshment.
What if I told you that playing just a little hooky from work could improve your productivity? What if having fun today got you better results in work and life tomorrow? What if time away from work was a human need, not a fool’s wish?
How would your work improve if you made having FUN a priority? Let me know in the comments below!
