Why having a vision gives you direction and improves your focus

Do you know where you’re going? If you often find yourself getting lost—bouncing from idea to idea—and struggling to focus, you may have a vision problem. I’m not talking about needing glasses…I’m talking about setting clear goals.

A vision acts as a map, guiding your life in the right direction. It serves as a powerful tool for inspiration and motivation—which strengthens your ability to focus. Without one, your focus will falter and quickly get sidetracked by every shiny distraction.

The best way to create a vision is to first find a quiet place and contemplate these questions:

  1. What do I want to become five years from now?
  2. What do I want to do five years from now?
  3. What do I want to have five years from now?

Take five minutes to picture each answer in your mind. Then, take the time to write out your thoughts. Use these notes to create your vision statement and hang it somewhere prominently in your office.

What’s your vision? How do you see your life in five years?
