Reduce procrastination by focusing on how great you’ll feel afterwards

“Ugh. I am NOT looking forward to (fill in the blank with a task you’re dreading).” You know the feeling of a dreaded task on your schedule. You find yourself coming up with all kinds of excuses to procrastinate on getting it done, too. The problem is, no matter how much you put it off, it’ll still be there waiting for you. Before you know it, the deadline is here and you’re stressed and rushing to get it done. This is what I call negative procrastination (yes, there’s a positive form, but that’s another topic for another day).

Try focusing on the feelings AFTER you get something completed. The satisfaction of success is addictive! You’ll feel less stressed, more accomplished, and able to enjoy the remainder of your day once the task is done.

How do you avoid negative procrastination?
