Why you need to get away from the desert mentality

“I’m going to travel when I retire…” is a sign that you live in a WISH culture and struggle with the desert mentality.

The WISH culture is WHEN you spend your life working continuously with minimal breaks. You’re always dreaming of the future when you can rest. The interim is what I call the “desert.” It drains your focus and productivity like quicksand.

Many people think something has to change for them to take an Oasis. Some common examples of this include:

  • When I retire…
  • When my health is better…
  • When my marriage isn’t on rocky ground…
  • When the kids grow up…
  • When I have enough money…

Sound familiar? If these statements are a part of your regular pattern of thinking, then you’re living in a WISH culture. Instead, take advantage of the NOW culture! Regular Oases are an important part of your path to success. Work will always be around as a never-ending loop. Waiting until the “work is done” will end in burnout. Schedule a break. Do something fun NOW. Your focus and productivity will soar as a result.

What is your desert? I’m curious to know what’s keeping you from an Oasis.
