How are you doing?
It’s a simple question. It also helps build relationships when working from home.
One of the biggest disadvantages of working remotely is the lost connections due to lack of engagement. We default to short, direct communication in meetings and emails. The small talk in the office break room is missing.
Why is this an issue? Well, casual conversations are where you get to know each other. You become comfortable enough to BE YOURSELF. Strong relationships make a team more productive, motivated and focused at work. When you’re not being yourself, it affects everyone, by weakening that bond.
The next time you have a Zoom meeting, kick it off with a little small talk. Start by asking, “How are you doing today?” And remember—just be yourself.
