Have you ever set a big goal only to watch it quietly fade into the background?
The problem usually isn’t the size of the goal or lack of motivation…
It’s the missing process.
Here are 7 tips for making big goals more achievable:
1. Envision the finish line.
Don’t just write down what you want. Picture it clearly. What will you achieve? By when? How will it feel when you get there?
2. Divide it into smaller targets.
Big goals feel overwhelming when you only see the distance between where you are and where you want to be. Divide the goal into bite-sized milestones you can actually conquer.
3. Choose your next action.
Don’t try to plan every step at once. Look at your nearest target and ask, “What is the next step?” Then ask, “When will it be done?”
4. Make a commitment others can see.
A goal kept only in your mind is easier to delay. Share your commitment with people who matter to you. Especially the people you don’t want to let down.
5. Create real accountability.
Accountability means ongoing guidance and follow-up from someone you trust. A friend, mentor, or coach can help you assess your progress, stay encouraged, and keep moving.
6. Celebrate your successes.
Don’t rush past progress. Stop and recognize it. Write it down. Share it. Reward yourself in a way that’s meaningful to you.
7. Evaluate and recommit.
Set a regular appointment with yourself to review your progress. Adjust the goal if needed. Choose the next action. Then schedule it.
Setting a goal is the easy part.
Achieving it comes from creating a clear vision, enlisting help, and taking one action at a time.
What’s one goal you’re ready to stop “setting” and start achieving?
