Why the Business Growth Rate is Overrated

Many entrepreneurs are highly competitive. They want to measure their progress and compare themselves to others.

But what’s the most overrated number when it comes to business growth?

Find out by watching this short video.  More important, learn what you should be measuring instead.

Action Steps:

  1. If you’re not already, start generating financial reports for your business. Without them, there’s no way to know your score in the game.
  2. Start measuring the rate your profit, instead of revenue, grows.
  3. Ask yourself what products and services are most profitable per-unit-sold.
  4. Comment or ask questions on this page.

Principles:

  1. Too much emphasis on growth can sometimes cause small businesses to grow too fast.
  2. Generating financial reports is important. More important is focusing on the right numbers.
  3. It’s easy to grow sales so fast that you damage your business in the process.

Another great video, Dave! Principle #3 above – “it’s easy to grow sales so fast that you damage your business in the process.”

I took advantage of an opportunity in the past year – it looked like a perfect fit, and the profit per hour was great. I reviewed it with my team of advisers and coaches. They all asked me the tough questions, then gave it the green light. I actually wound up losing money and was physically exhausted at the end of the deal. Certain conditions existed that I didn’t know were there until I got deep into it. Thank god it was a short-term situation and had an end date.

That is why it is really SO important to look at the numbers from every possible angle. Thank you so much for reminding us in this video.

P.S. I just forwarded this to my accountant – he specializes in tax strategy, and I know he’ll love it!
