Small business owners sometimes have trouble letting go of control. And that death-grip management style is exactly how Chaos Inc. wants to see you run the show.
That’s right—too much control can actually be more work, more costly, more chaotic.
So take a minute to find out if you’ve got your employees in a management headlock with my four steps to STOP being a micro-manager. Because the more you loosen that vice, the more focused you can really be.
Maybe this whole time you thought you were focusing when instead you were nitpicking.
Perhaps you were focusing on the “how’s and now’s” instead of the “why’s and when’s”? Effective managers show respect by encouraging employees to get the job done efficiently, to the best of their ability, and within a realistic time frame. Micro-managers do not.
Or it could be that you simply focused on instruction and conformity rather than demonstration and overall growth? Effective managers lead by example, which leaves some wiggle room for growth in employees and your small business. Micro-managers do not.
We’ve all been bitten by the micro-manager bug—including yours truly. But I’d like to know what steps you’ve taken to ease up on the control gears! Let’s hear your suggestions in the comment box below!
