Invaluable CEO: How to Solve Business Frustrations with the SAM Cycle

In this all-new instruction video I share the Invaluable Cycle, or SAM Cycle. This simple tool can help you quickly uncover the root cause of any challenge in business you’re facing.

Action Steps:

  1. Take out a pen and write down one frustration in your business.
  2. Assess your business frustration in each of the Invaluable Cycle factors.
  3. Share your perspective or ask questions on this page.

Principles to Learn:

  1. The Invaluable Cycle consists of these 3 things:
    1. Systems
    2. Accountability
    3. Motivation
  2. The characteristics of a business system are:
    1. Simple
    2. Easy
    3. Documented
  3. In cultivating accountability, there should be:
    1. Recurring Meetings
    2. 1 on 1
  4. Motivation is directly link to performance:
    1. With Motivation = Vibrant Performance
    2. Without Motivation = Compliant Performance
  5. Any problem that is happening in your business can be traced back to either a neglect or an absence of one of these 3 things: Systems, Accountability, or Motivation.

Just watched this (I’m a bit behind) and you have captured EXACTLY what is going on for me. I am so frustrated and am trying to figure out which of these three I don’t have in place. I have GOT to get this handled. Thanks, Dave. Excellent, as always.

      Glad to serve, Meggin!

      Ask yourself:
      - Do I have documented systems in place that deal with this issue?
      - Am i holding the right person accountable (OR, if it’s about you) Is someone holding ME accountable for the results?
      - Do my employees care about the results? (OR, if it’s about you) Why is this important to me?

I’ve known you for a long time and know you have a great business. If you want more help, you can fill out an assessment at: http://invaluableinc.com/executive/?p=89

A warm hello from Holland, Dave. My name is Annejet and I’ve read your book about Multitasking with pleasure! Working as a coach and trainer for professionals, I experience similar things as you. In your video you speak about ‘accountability’. You know, in my perception employees are often held accountable, but they do not get the matching authority (power?). It’s like you have to swim with your hand tied at your back! So, maybe it’s more a combination of the two?

Looking forward to hear from you.

Hoi, Annejet! Thank you for your insight. I agree… that does happen frequently, where an employee is held accountability but not given all the power they need. It’s a bit of a semantics issue, but I believe the power you’re referring to comes in the Motivation part of the equation.

An employee can’t be truly motivated unless they feel valued, validated and empowered. They need to know that their individual hopes and dreams matter just as much as the company’s do. Part of what I teach CEOs is how to recognize the unique contribution and value offered by each employee, and then to give each employee the opportunity to share that uniqueness. Its what takes performance beyond compliance into brilliance.

Thank you for sharing! Come back again soon.

Thanks Dave for this! My biggest reason for not getting things done is mostly neglect and accountability, mostly someone holding me accountable. Thanks for making me realize this!
